Kuala Lumpur

Hello! Another post that is long overdue again :D I have to post this one now since it`s almost two months overdue :)) Anyways, so last November, we had a 27hr layover in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia! :) It was my first time in Malaysia so I was excited to see the city. It feels like my hometown, Manila, since the weather is alike, plus the time is the same.

We arrived in the afternoon, the hotel was far from the airport so we had time to rest at the bus before we reach the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel, we just changed and then went out to explore Kuala :) Here`s a peek of my hotel room, and I`ve got the view of the KL Tower outside my window ;)

We first went to see the KLCC, we took the metro, and at the KLCC station there`s a mall right outside the metro. We checked out the grocery store, since I needed something for personal use and it`s super emergency haha, then we bought Old Town Coffee packs which were on sale!! After that, we went to the food court called Taste Enclave, looking and hoping for pork (haha), then ate before we went to see the Petronas Towers outside.

When in Rome

Heeey, this post is long overdue haha. So, last October 31st, we had a 26hr layover in Rome, Italy!! I was super excited to see another Europe city and since the aircraft we use for flights to Italy is just the narrow body one, it`s a plus that we`ll only have a few passengers on board ;) And so we did, super light load on the way to Rome woohoo! This one`s my personal favorite flight so far ;)

We arrived in Rome at about 1-2 in the afternoon, it was quite a long drive to the hotel. After we arrived, we went to our rooms to change and rest for a while before we go out. Luckily, we had another Filipina with us, she`s our senior and she knows the way around. We all went to the Vatican that evening. As I mentioned in my previous post, again, I`d like to think our company is so thoughtful for letting us stay in a beautiful hotel which is just beside the metro! Talk about convenience haha.

London in October

Hey everyone! I finally got time to write about my first Europe layover :) When the October roster came out, my roommate and I were so excited that we`ll be flying partners for the whole October :) We were blessed to have two Europe flights for this month :)

Last week, I had a 29hr layover in London! I don`t know what to feel because it still feels so surreal even after I had the chance to stand almost beside the Big Ben, see the London Eye and step on the Tower Bridge hehe

Anyway, so, it was a very short layover, when we arrived at the hotel, luckily they still serve breakfast, so we had breakfast before we went to our rooms and change, rest for a bit and then went out. Lucky for me, my flying partner has been to London last month so she knows which way we`ll go.

Our company is so thoughtful that they chose a hotel just nearby the Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, and also the underground train and bus stops :) We bought this unlimited one day pass for £8.90 which you can use on either the train or bus until AM04:00. I took a photo of this bus which the final destination is Notting Hill Gate hehe, I love watching movies and Notting Hill is one of my favorite Julia Roberts film :)

Come fly with me :)

Hello!! I have been wanting to write since I got back from Manila to start training with this one big airline here in the MidEast, but since time didnt permit me to do so, here I am now, trying to summarize everything that happened since June in one boring post haha

So, after two months of initial training, I finally got my wings :) No one else to be grateful for but God and my whole support system (haha aka my family, friends and this really sweet guy :>) who stayed with me throughout my journey to fulfill my dream of becoming a flight attendant :)

Individual Cheesecakes with Crumb Topping

Hello everyone! Today, I recreated Joy of Baking.com`s Individual Cheesecakes but I topped it with crumbs from the recipe of bakedbree.com. Both recipes are at the end of this post. Although bakedbree.com has its own recipe for cheesecakes, I only used the crumb topping recipe.

Here are some of the ingredients that I used for the Cheesecakes - I used Digestive biscuits instead of graham wafer crumbs:

I was absolutely excited to make this one! It is my first time to make a cheesecake from scratch, I chose to make these 'mini' cheesecakes since it`s a lot easier to make than the big one, plus I don`t know why we don`t have a springform -.- lol I think it`ll taste the same anyway. :) I`m also excited cos it`s my favorite! I love cheesecake so much! Even more because it`s New York style, just like my favorite (and probably yours too) from Krispy Kreme ;)

KAUST One Day Visit

Living in a "not so open" country, there are heaps of huge malls where you can shop and dine and the only thing missing are movie theaters. After learning that there is an open "little city" just one hour outside the city where we are in, my family and our friends are all excited to visit there. KAUST or King Abdullah University of Science and Technology is well, obviously, a huge university, which offers students and employees their own dorms, houses/villa. They have a supermarket inside, a museum, lots of different restaurants and coffee shops, cafeteria near the offices and school, a recreation club aaand a couple of movie theaters. PLUS, women don`t get to wear abayas inside the campus! :)

Not everyone can simply get inside the campus, you have to know someone from the inside to get you a sponsorship or a pass, the pass can allow you to stay for up to three days.

There were 9 of us who went to visit the campus that day, we stayed at the villa of our sponsor and family friend to get some lunch and rest a bit, here`s a photo of the villa`s dining area which is super nice, simple but classic design.

After lunch, we went to the place where the movie theaters are located. Everyone wanted to try and see a movie that time. We were all missing the cinemas and the malls in Manila. But before we bought our tickets, we went to get some ice cream fix on Baskin Robbins just downstairs of the cinemas. So there are only two movies they are screening every week, that week, they have The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Although not many of us were LOTR fans, we chose The Hobbit over the action film. I, personally, didn`t regret with our choice of film. It was so good I`m thinking of watching the Trilogy.

Interview tips for Flight Attendant Applicants

Hello everyone! Personally, I have applied to only one airline and had undergone the final interview so I`m here to share some tips that I also got from my friends who are flying for a long time already :)

While waiting for the date of your final interview, you can spend the rest of your time preparing for it, here are some of the things you can do:

1. Do some research about the airline.
2. Read blogs/forums about FA interviews.
3. Know the exact job / work description.
4. Write down possible questions and your answers.
5. Practice with a friend, or on your own.
6. Pray, pray, pray!

If you`re a fan of movies or series, you can also watch flight attendant based films/series to get some tips. My personal and forever favorites are View From The Top and the series Pan Am. Watching these can help you get the feel of it. Also, try to practice your smile, and make up.

Like other job interviews, applicants are interviewed by a panel of 3 to 4 persons. If you`ve done thesis defense during your college years, just keep in mind that this is almost the same hehe. Interview questions are really basic, so you just have to show how interested you are, your enthusiasm, give them your best smile and be confident (but not too much that it shows), breathe and answer them with all your heart. Here are five of the most basic interview questions:

Classic Butter Cookies

So I got bored and hungry and wanted something to bake and eat except I don't have all the ingredients to most of the recipes that I keep with me. I remembered there's an awful lot of butter left in our refrigerator that's why I thought I'd search for anything that I can do with butter. Aaand yes, butter cookies is what came to my mind! I am fond of looking into recipes and other stuff on Pinterest (follow me: mimigrutas). I search for different kinds of recipes there and so I did look for butter cookies and came around with this basic butter cookies recipe from Robyn Stone (addapinch.com).

What is nice about this recipe is that it's super easy to make and you can find all the ingredients in your kitchen pantry. And who wouldn't love a classic butter cookie just because? :)
I tried it today, and here are the results:

Garlic & Onion Quinoa (Fried Rice)

I`ve been wanting to try quinoa since I stopped eating rice for a long time now I figured this could be an alternative or substitute to it. So I tried quinoa today for brunch, having the same ingredients as of with the regular fried rice (or sinangag in Filipino) that I normally do and eat for breakfast or brunch. My first try in cooking quinoa, I don`t think it was perfect but it`s cooked and it tasted good.

Garlic & Onion Quinoa Fried Rice

Ingredients:

1 Cup Quinoa, uncooked (serves 2)
2 C filtered
2 tbsp. olive or vegetable oil
3-4 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium white onion, chopped or minced
Salt & Pepper, to taste

1. Wash the quinoa under cold water in a strainer, rubbing the seeds with both hands to remove the natural coating.
2. Combine 1 cup quinoa to 1 1/2 to 2 cups filtered water into a pot. Add a pinch of sea salt to bring to the boil. Reduce the heat, cover. Let it simmer for 10 to 15 minutes or until the water is fully absorbed by the quinoa. Fluff the quinoa with fork.
3. In another skillet or medium wok, sauté the garlic and onion in medium heat with oil.
4. Combine the cooked quinoa with the garlic and onion, salt & pepper to taste.
5. Serve for breakfast or lunch with choice of  viand.

What I love about quinoa is that you can use it for "fried rice" as soon as after it is cooked, unlike rice which usually needs to be kept overnight before using it for fried rice.

How do you cook and eat your quinoa?

Homemade Juice Detox

I have been trying different kinds of cleanses or fasting for almost a year now. I tried the Lemonade Diet also known as the Master Cleanse, as well as water fasting. I never last longer than 3 days hahaha. Now I will be trying this juice cleanse for weight loss. I got the recipes and Calorie/Protein value from juicerecipes.com, but I narrowed it down to some favorites.

There are lots of health benefits when it comes to juicing, it is good for the heart, digestion, colon, can lower cholesterol, weight loss, etc. I`m doing this mainly for weight loss since I have to maintain and lose a tiny bit more :)

Hello!

What got me to blog again?
Just because I feel like there will be lots to write about soon lol
