Interview tips for Flight Attendant Applicants

Hello everyone! Personally, I have applied to only one airline and had undergone the final interview so I`m here to share some tips that I also got from my friends who are flying for a long time already :)

While waiting for the date of your final interview, you can spend the rest of your time preparing for it, here are some of the things you can do:

1. Do some research about the airline.
2. Read blogs/forums about FA interviews.
3. Know the exact job / work description.
4. Write down possible questions and your answers.
5. Practice with a friend, or on your own.
6. Pray, pray, pray!

If you`re a fan of movies or series, you can also watch flight attendant based films/series to get some tips. My personal and forever favorites are View From The Top and the series Pan Am. Watching these can help you get the feel of it. Also, try to practice your smile, and make up.

Like other job interviews, applicants are interviewed by a panel of 3 to 4 persons. If you`ve done thesis defense during your college years, just keep in mind that this is almost the same hehe. Interview questions are really basic, so you just have to show how interested you are, your enthusiasm, give them your best smile and be confident (but not too much that it shows), breathe and answer them with all your heart. Here are five of the most basic interview questions:

Most of the interviews start with "Tell me about yourself", with this, you have to say something about yourself that cannot be seen or can`t be read in your resume/CV, but also can help you get a good impression. It can be short or you can say everything you think they want to hear.

Another basic question for flight attendant applicants would be the famous "Why do you want to be a Flight Attendant?", to answer "because of the travel benefits" or "because I want to travel the world" is kind of a big NO NO. You have to look deeper to the profession, you have to show them (by what you`re saying) that you know what their job is. That`s why doing research is good. Having to travel the world as a flight attendant is a given, but what do you think is the actual job of a flight attendant.

With that question can usually come with a follow up like "What does a Flight Attendant do?", so if you`ve done your research you`ll have a good answer to this. Extra tip: FA`s are there for service and safety :) FAs are not only there to serve and live a good life while traveling the world. What a lot of people don`t know is that they are fully trained professionals and they might just be the one who can save you when something goes wrong on the plane.

One more basic question that is asked on interviews is about working on a team, "How well do you work with other people?" or "Do you prefer working alone or as part of a team?", as a Flight Attendant, you should be a people person and you should know how good it is to work with a team. Throughout every flight you`ll be surrounded by complete strangers who you have to assist and serve, so if you`re not a people person, we have a big problem. Same goes with the job, you`re a whole crew, not a big problem cos you don`t have to be BFFs with the people you`re flying with, you just have to get along with them and be sincere, nice. Be friendly. :)

Another will be "What are your experiences on customer service?", It`s a plus if you do have experience, but if you don`t, it isn`t a big problem at all, just tell them and show them why they should still hire you despite your lack of experience. Share some past experiences that you consider as customer service or almost like that.

Just a little additional tip, if at the start of your interview you were asked to tell them about yourself, in addition to your story about yourself, try telling them everything that you think they will ask you next, like all the answers to all the questions written here. That way, they`ll be speechless and they`ll be left with no questions at all. :)

These are the basic questions that I got during my interview for one big airline, I hope these tips and preparations can help all of you! And may God`s will and favor be upon you on your final interviews :)

If you have additional questions, comments and suggestions, feel free to drop some love on the comment box :)

Hello, Charmaine :) Thank you for reading my blog :) actually I wrote about the questions that I got during my final interview :) I think the questions will always depend on your answers :) but the most difficult to answer, I think, will be the famous "tell me about yourself" hehe. Prepare yourself well before the final interview, pray and stay relaxed :) Thank you and God bless you too :)

  11. Hi, Lara :)

Thank you for writing this post, it's very helpful for others who want to join SV. Anyway, I'm from Indonesia. I applied for this job directly and had my final interview at the OCC office in the 2nd floor. There were 5 interviewers, Mr. Adil, Mr. Hatim, Mr. Saleh, Miss Pat, and Miss Nadira.. it was a great experience and I was glad that my name was one of those few who were selected.

Now I am back in Indonesia waiting for the Jeddah office to contact us on what to do next. We are also required to take IELTS test from British Council and have to pass it before we can take the medical exam.. so this waiting period is really frustrating.. I am sure I can pass the test, but waiting like this is killing me, hahaha.. I know that we have to endure this moment for awhile.. but still... all I want to do now is don its pretty blue uniform and fly as SV cabin crew member..

Anyway, I hope all this processes finish soon and when the time comes, we will meet in person.. Thank you for sharing.. keep on writing :)

    2. Wish to fly to Jeddah soon and meet you in person.. it's gonna be great, from blog to reality :) anyways, I was wondering how long were you in training for Saudia? And what did you learn? How many types of aircraft did you study? :)

So sorry for asking you quite many things.. it's because I rarely stumble upon a Saudia flight attendant's blog.. I've read a lot of crew blogs from all other airlines, but not Saudia.. and since I'm in the process of joining, it's kind of amusing to me :)

It's gonna be interesting to read more on your blog.. keep on writing, about anything, especially your days in Saudia.. it helps me releasing this stress from waiting, hahaha~ :D

    3. I hope so too! :) I`m really flattered that there are people who read my blog haha, and very happy that those who I get to talk to through my blog will soon be flying with Saudia as well :) We had our training for about a month and a half :) Service, safety, the basics. We only had two, initially :) No it`s okay, I hope I`m answering your questions just fine :) Soon, you`ll get to blog about your days with Saudia :) Thank you so much again for reading :) I`m really really flattered! Thank you :) Goodluck again and fly with you soon :)

I'm going to visit my family in Jeddah and I read in your comment that you applied directly there. Is that possible for me? What are the requirements / the process when you apply directly? Can you share your experience when you apply in KSA?
    Thank you (:

  13. Hi miss lara, I've read that you directly apply sa office ng SV. May I know po kung paano ung process nila when it comes to local hiring? Are they going to interview you agad or you just need to pass it in their office and wait for a call? Nasa KSA din po kasi ako right now, and I was just wondering if I could apply. Are they really strict ba when it comes to dental braces? Thanks ms. lara hoping for your soonest reply. :)

    2. Hello, Karen! :) When you pass your resume, they will take your height and weight, then siguro konting interview ganyan, then they will schedule you for an interview with the managers :) Then that`s it. Once you`re accepted na, they will ask you to go to Manila to process your papers sa agency. I think they will ask when will you remove your braces :) Good luck! :)

    3. Hi Lara, thanks for replying. I really appreciate it! :) is it a one day process?like you will know if you are already accepted on the same day? Or you are going to still wait for their call or email? And one thing po, very particular po ba sila when it comes to moles? Meron po kasi ako sa face and ive tired concealing it but no effect for me. :( im really worried. :(

    4. Hello, Karen! You`re welcome :) After the final interview, I think it depends how many you applicants there are, maybe they will let you wait for a call or something. Good luck! :) Nope, I heard people from here like moles :) and besides, it`s a beauty mark, don`t hide it! :)

    5. Wow! Thank you Lara! Nakakaboost ng confidence ung sinabi mo :) anyway i hope you don't mind me asking, was it really hard? I mean madami talagang nagaapply as local hire? And in your case how long ka nagwait ng call sa kanila after final interview? anyway thank you again Lara :) you are really an angel sent from above! Fly high skydoll! More power to you. God bless you.

    6. You're welcome dear :) Nope actually I think it's a lot easier to apply here kasi konti yung competition unlike in Manila hehe. We were 5 during the interview, the other 2 were sent home directly, we were asked to wait, then they told us they'd give us a call pag naayos na yung papers (which is the one that has to be signed by the panel and the VP yata or smthng like that) Parang one week lang ganyan then straight to the HR na. Thank you so much for your kind words! I pray God will move in your life and make your dreams come true just like what He did for me. God bless you!

    2. Hello Yosh! I haven't apply yet cause I'm still planning and waiting for the right time? (Haha if you know what I mean, the preparation and everything plus Jeddah is far from where I am right now :( ) But I have a friend who applied and undergone the interview process in SV Jeddah. Let me share it to you, What she did first was to submit her CV directly to Flight Ops Office of SV in Jeddah, they checked her height and weight, and she told me that your weight is proportion to your height. So for that, please refer for the height and weight chart in IPAMS website. If you passed this stage they will scheduled you for an interview. After that, if you are qualified and passed the interview you will be having your final interview with the HR Manager of SV. And then they will asked you to do your medical and everything, and lastly you will exit your current visa and go back to MNL to process your papers and visa thru IPAMS. That's basically what happened to my friend when she applied directly and now she is having her training. (Inggit! pero okay lang.) God bless you Yosh! When are you planning to apply? Hope to see youuuuu! Goodluck to us!

    3. As for her experience, she told me that it was so exciting but at the same time it was so nerve-racking. But no worries, just come prepared and always pray. Practice makes perfect and always keep your eyes on your goal. And lastly always wear your Smile.

    4. Hi Karen! Thank you so much for replying and also for sharing your friend's experience during the interview process.I really appreciate it. And wow, I am happy for your friend who passed :D I have actually passed my CV already to them and I am just waiting for the next step. But while waiting, I am really doing my best to lose weight because I am not that tall. haha. So i think it's better to lose weight in order to be prepared when they call me for assessment. I'm just praying that this job would be for me.. Btw, Can I ask about your height if it's okay with you? :)

    5. Oh Hope you would be able to apply soon, Karen! So basically, that's a panel interview right? Before the final interview with the HR Manager of SV? :) God bless you too Karen.. If it's God's will, we will pass this and we will meet here in Jeddah soon. :)

    1. Hi hana, as what I've heard from other applicants, yes they are really strict when it comes to height and weight. But I think they will considered you if you passed the reach test. And as for the weight, my friend told me that it should be proportional sa height. You can visit ipams.com for the weight chart. :)

  19. Hello Lara! I'm Pam. I have a small heart tattoo on my inner left wrist. Is Saudia strict about this? I know that the uniform is long sleeves with a blazer so this would be hidden and I plan to put on concealer and wear a watch. I really want to be an FA. Please answer. Thanks <3
